Eradicating corruption

THE key to eradicating official corruption, which is pervasive and deep-rooted in the country, is to rid national and local government offices of “thieves” and their cohorts in the private sector.

But to get results, the government, with the help of even the ordinary citizens, should intensify the nationwide anti-corruption campaign by bringing the so-called “big fish” before the courts.

Of course, we are made to believe that the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. is out to hit hard at corrupt men and women in government uniform.

The Filipino people support the 64-year-old President Marcos, who assumed the top political post of the land last June 30, as he goes after the corrupt without fear or favor.

“Ang kailangan lang ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. ay tulong ng taumbayan, kasama na ang mga mahihirap, para matigil na ang katarantaduhan sa gobyerno,” said a village official.

The official said well-meaning barangay officials and employees play a crucial role in bringing before the courts “public servants” who persist on cheating the government.

“Alam na alam nila kung ano ang totoong nangyayari sa mga proyektong dapat pakinabangan ng taumbayan, lalo na ang mga mahihirap,” according to the irtate barangay exec.

In the view of many, the Marcos government will have the all-out support of religious groups, media, business and even civil society in a serious campaign against corruption.

Getting more than 31 million votes in the May 9 national and local polls, the former senator from Ilocos Norte is in a position to go after the “rotten eggs” in the bureaucracy.

Pinoys are fortunate to have Marcos Jr. at the helm of the government at a time when we are confronted with numerous problems, such as rising prices of goods and services.
