IN preparation for the midterm elections in May, the Eastern Police District (EPD) has established checkpoints in the eastern part of Metropolis.

EPD Director PCol Villamor Tuliao said the four police stations of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan conducted simultaneous checkpoints in their respective areas of responsibility at exactly 12:01 a.m. of January 12, 2025.

This is in pursuance to the implementation of Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 10741 which embodies the guidelines on the establishment and operation of COMELEC checkpoints.

The said checkpoints will last until June 11, 2025 where it covers the strict implementation on the violation of liquor ban, gun ban or those who are bearing, carrying or transporting firearms or other deadly weapons, and other prohibited items that could be used to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election.

Tuliao explained checkpoints manned by authorities will conduct a strict and thorough checking and inspection to ensure the implementation of a safe and secure May 2025 midterm elections.

EPD personnel deployed to man the established checkpoints were also reminded to stay alert and vigilant at all times and adhere to the police operational procedures and respect for human rights. Hence, they bear the “AAA” framework of Acting Regional Director, National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) , PBGEN Anthony Aberin which means being an“Able, Active and Allied” police force.

The EPD top cop also emphasized the importance of conducting the COMELEC checkpoint in a peaceful manner, ensuring the safety and security of the people of Metro East.

He also said, other law enforcement operations on anti-criminality will still be on top priority during these times.

The EPD also encouraged the public to cooperate with authorities and follow the rules and regulations set by the COMELEC and the PNP to ensure the success of the said elections.

Further, the said simultaneous launching of COMELEC checkpoint aims to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the electoral process as well as respect the democratic rights of the society.
