Electrician, driver nabbed for ‘extortion’ on OFW

A 53-YEAR-OLD electrician and a driver were arrested for extorting from an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in a police entrapment conducted Friday afternoon in Lipa City.

Lipa city Police Station chief Lt. Col. Lory M. Tarrazona identified the arrested suspects as Leonard Salazar, married, resident of 135 Aguilar St., Caridad, Bgy. 37, and Edel Martinez, 53, married, driver of 251 Capt. Villareal St., Bgy. 38, both in Cavite City.

The victim was identified as Queenalyn Mendoza, 30, married, OFW, and a resident of Block 1 Lot 20, RL Carmel Heights Subdivision, Bgy. Kayumangi Lipa City.

Case officers PSMS Rodel M. Silva, PSSg Glenn Allan A.. Maandal, and PCPl Arnold Ubaldo said the suspects were arrested while receiving marked moneh from the victim at around 2:10 p.m. on July 23 at Block 1 Lot 20, RL Carmel Heights Subdivision, Bgy. Kayumangi by Lipa City PS Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team under the supervision of P/LT Gregorio Cuevas Malaluan.

Investigation showed the victim was threatened by one Misukami Hirofumi Fugiwara, a Japanese national and believed to be her former lover, that if she did not return his car, house, and the P4,000,000, he had sent her, he would destroy her reputation on social media.

The Japanese national allegedly sent Salazar and Martinez to the victim’s house to get the money and her car prompting the victim to seek police assistance.

The suspects were nabbed during an entrapment operation.
