THE senatorial bid of retired police general Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar was boosted with the endorsement of influential religious group El Shaddai.

Eleazar skipped the Partido Reporma’s Mindanao leg sortie after El Shaddai’s charismatic founder Mike Velardo invited him to attend their prayer rally in Paranaque Saturday night.

The former national police chief who reaped popularity due to his hard stand against rogue cops but a soft heart on the good ones was introduced by Velarde to the group with some eight million members and followers.

Bro. Mike mentioned “Vox Populli, Vox Dei” or the “voice of the people is the voice of God,” sending a message to his followers the need to unite in electing the country’s leaders.

Velarde’s endorsement came five days after vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte mentioned Eleazar to be among her acknowledged friends gunning for a senate seat and endorsed him in the May 9 polls.

During Partido Reporma’s two-day stop in Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro last Friday and Saturday, Eleazar despite his absence, still received warm applause from the appreciative crowd when his recorded message was played.

The people were amused as they appreciated the police general’s SIGA (Sipag at Galing) approach to improve peace and order in the country and to give each Filipino rooms to feel safe and protected.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa tiwala na ibinigay ni Bro. Mike Velarde sa aking kakayahan na patuloy na maglingkod sa ating mga kababayan. This is a major source of strength as I pursue my commitment to serve the Filipino with dignity and integrity,” Eleazar said in a statement.

He added: “Hindi natin sisirain ang pagtitiwalang ibinigay ni Bro. Mike Velarde at ng El Shaddai sa paglilingkod sa bayan at bilang boses ng taumbayan sa kanilang araw-araw na laban sa buhay.”

Eleazar in his very short six-month stint as police chief (from May to November), made his presence felt against the crooked policemen while implementing a no-non-sense fight against illegal drugs and other forms of criminality that endeared him to the general public.

“Ako’y naniniwala na sa pagkakaisa a sa tulungan nating lahat, tayo po ay pagpapalain ng Diyos at mamumuhay nang maayos at payapa,” he said.
