Eleazar cites more ‘saintly’ cops
Eleazar notes rising number of Good Samaritans among PNP personnel
PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar on Saturday praised a growing number of PNP personnel for their saintly and Good Samaritan acts amid their tasks to keep peace as well as prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
Eleazar cited two policewomen from the Dumalag Municipal Police Station in Capiz identified as Corporal Mary Joy Fusin and Staff Sergeant Maybell Legario who helped a local resident safely deliver her baby this week
A police report said that Tirisa Bindol and her husband were already on their way to the Dao District Hospital where she was scheduled to give birth when she suffered severe labor pains indicating she was very close to giving birth
The woman’s husband immediately sought assistance from local police.
Cpl. Fusin, a registered nurse, and SSgt. Legario helped the woman deliver her baby.
After the delivery, the infant was immediately brought to the Dumalag Health Center.
Then there is the case of Lieutenant Alberto Parena and Cpl. Eladio Francisco II of the Naval MPS in Biliran who donated their own blood to a woman who urgently needed transfusion after undergoing a surgery.
According to a report from the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) headed by Brigadier Gen. Ronaldo F. de Jesus, a local resident identified as Jesel Vismanos Lumontod last June 15 sought police assistance for his mother who was badly in need of blood transfusion.
Heeding the citizen’s call, Lt. Parena and Cpl. Francisco immediately proceeded to the Biliran Provincial Hospital to donate the life-saving fluid.
Gen. Eleazar also cited members of the Pugo MPS in La Union who have been giving free haircut as a community service to youngsters unable to go to barbershops amid the continuing threat of COVID-19.
Initially having given free haircuts to just 15 boys in Barangay Palina, the local policemen who got basic hair-cutting tips from local barbers decided to expand their clientele and launched early this month a “Kuya Pulis Barbero” program.
The PNP chief hailed the cops for this initiative that could also bring children closer to policemen and encourage kids to emulate the good deeds of the police officers.
Gen. Eleazar said he will make sure that the concerned policemen will be given proper recognition for their good deeds.
The PNP Chief also urged other police officers to do acts of kindness and genuine public service similar to that done by the above-mentioned policemen.
The top cop also urged other policemen to emulate the policemen’s display of unconditional and genuine service.
Just recently, Gen. Eleazar also lauded two police officers in Negros Oriental after they donated blood to a woman who badly needed transfusion after she was injured in a vehicular accident.
In the case of the Pugo policemen, the PNP chief exhorted his men to think of other ingenious ways to help the public.
