Egg shortage in PH?
SOME quarters, including the ordinary ctitizens, fear that the Philippines may experience egg shortage in April.
It is heartening to know, however, that this early, concerned government authorities are taking steps to avert egg shortage.
In fact, the Department of Agriculture (DA) is expediting the importation of egg-laying hens.
Note that egg producers suffered losses last year due to lower prices as a result of the oversupply of eggs in the country.
Those who incurred losses culled their laying hens to generate much-needed cash.
Financial institutions were urged to provide funding to support the industry’s repopulation efforts.
They include the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).
Also expected to be adversely affected by an egg shortage are bakeries, restaurants, and food manufacturers.
It is also expected that the government will hit hard at erring businessmen, who raise their prices while the government is doing everything to address the problem.
