LUPAO, Nueva Ecija – The Nueva Ecija Police have declared as “solved” the January 24, 2023 slaying of the Barangay San Isidro chairman following the arrest of one of the four suspects on Saturday or four days after the barangay official’s killing.

Provincial police head Col. Richard V. Caballero said the suspect was caught by operatives while allegedly riding the motorcycle used in the barangay official’s murder.

Seized was a cal. 38 Smith and Wesson revolver without a serial number.

A breakthrough in the case occurred when the arrested suspect executed an extra-judicial confession on Jan. 30 or two days later, admitting that he was “one of four” male perpetrators allegedly responsible for the village chief’s murder.

Caballero said the suspect also identified his three cohorts.

However, one of the alleged accomplices was killed on that same day after he engaged lawmen earlier in a firefight when he was spotted driving an alleged stolen motorcycle in Bgy. Sto.Niño 3rd, resulting in his instantaneous death.

Recovered from the slain suspect were a caliber 357 revolver, a black sling bag, and a black Yamaha Mio motorcycle.

Murder charges have been filed against the suspects, said Caballero.

“We are dead serious in our crime prevention and solution efforts and continue to invigorate our proactive anti-criminality measures; hence, any criminals who may destroy our peace and order condition in our province will be put behind bars of justice. No one is above the law,” he said.
