CABANATUAN CITY – At least 1,689 families comprising 6,119 individuals were displaced and evacuated to safer grounds as Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) unleashed its fury in Nueva Ecija, toppling electric and communication lines, destroying houses and inundating several barangays and low-lying areas in the province.

The total number of affected persons was initially gathered from reports emanating from the three cities of Palayan, Muñoz, and Gapan, and the 17 towns of Aliaga, Bongabon, Cuyapo, Gabaldon, General Natividad, General Tinio, Guimba, Llanera, Pantabangan, Peñaranda, Quezon, Rizal, San Antonio, Sta. Rosa, Sto. Domingo, Talavera, and Zaragosa.

At the Nueva Ecija Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), it was reported that the provincial government and the Nueva Ecija Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have already deployed their heavy equipment in landslide-prone areas in Gabaldon such as Bgys. Baterya and Pantoc.

The national highway in Gabaldon was rendered not passable as of 9:15 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 25, 2022) due to fallen trees blocking the road.

Governor Aurelio Umali, Vice Governor Emmanuel Antonio Umali, Fr. Arnold Abelardo, Atty. Joma San Pedro, provincial tourism officer, and Col. Richard Caballero conducted a live “Bantay Bagyo” teleradio broadcast on Sunday to give updates about the super typhoon and monitor those areas in urgent need of assistance.

At 12:30 a.m. Monday, several trees along Burgos Avenue here, fronting the Old Capitol Bldg., were uprooted, blocking the main thoroughfare.

In Talavera, some roads were also rendered impassable due to fallen trees littering the highway at 11:00 p.m (Sept. 26, 2022).

At 8:00 a.m. Monday, it was reported that several electric poles were toppled along the San Isidro-Bulualto Road, blocking the said road for motorists.

In Bgy. San Roque, Gapan City, at the Nueva Ecija-Bulacan boundary arch, several displaced residents sought refuge along the Maharlika Highway after rising floodwaters inundated and swept away their houses.

Fourth District Rep. Emerson “Emeng” Pascual visited the area on Monday morning and brought boxes of hot pandesal for their breakfast.

Pascual told them there will be a free lunch with menudo as viand and to be delivered to them.

The Nueva Ecija solon also vowed to help them restore their destroyed houses.

In San Jose City, power lines remained off as of press time Monday after it was temporarily cut off at 9:00 p.m. Sunday during the height of the typhoon.
