CABANATUAN CITY — Even local irrigation officials in Nueva Ecija are going gaga over TikTok nowadays, but for obvious official reasons.

This after the National Irrigation Administration’s Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System (UPRIIS) office based here made known its plan to launch a “TikTok Challenge” for all its division offices as part of the agency’s 58th founding anniversary on June 22.

UPRIIS department manager Engr. Rosalinda B. Bote said they are now counting on TikTok in showcasing to the world that despite the limitations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, “life goes on,” particularly in accomplishing their irrigation targets in so far as honoring their commitments to the farmers – their number one stakeholders – is concerned.

TikTok is a known video-sharing social media platform used in making short-form videos from genres such as dancing, comedy and education for a duration of 15 seconds to one minute.

Bote said this TikTok Challenge will be among the highlights in their celebration of the agency’s founding anniversary at the local office here on June 28.

“Wala kasi kaming malaking number ng attendance sa face-to-face bale 5 pax per field office lang at ung magtitiktok ay pre-video taped for maximum participants of 10 pax per office, including the manager,” explained Bote in her text message to the Journal Group.

Another highlight will be the holding of a simultaneous tree-planting activity of all division offices in watershed areas including the Marikit-Pantabangan watershed and at the newly-inaugurated Upper Tabuating Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in General Tinio.

Bote said the Tiktok Challenge’s backdrop for all the participating division offices shall be their completed irrigation projects to showcase that the pandemic did not slow them down but made them stronger and more innovative.

At the UPRIIS Interim Division 6, Engr. Jose Ariel G. Domingo said they are unfazed and will join the TikTok Challenge to present their two solar-powered irrigation pump and slope protection projects in Talugtog and Colosboa, Cuyapo.
