Ecija cops, soldiers discover explosives, food cache in enemy lair

GABALDON, Nueva Ecija – Government forces conducting a five-day internal security operations dubbed “Operation Plan: Masindak II” led to the discovery of a supposed lair of the New People’s Army in the hinterlands of this town, where several explosives and a food cache were found.

Lt. Col. Alexander Aurelio, commander of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company said the police and the military stumbled upon an alleged rebel encampment in Bgy. Macasandal in this town during the conduct of “Oplan MASINDAK II 2021” and found seven pieces of 40mm high-explosive grenade cartridges, three rifle grenades, including a food cache, consisting of five gallons of rice and 35 pieces of payless chicken noodles.

Aurelio said the internal security operations were conducted by joint elements of the 1st PMFC, NEPPO, the RIU 3, the 303rd MC RMFB3, 22nd SAC SAF, the Provincial Intelligence Unit, the Nueva Ecija Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit and the Alpha and Delta Company of the Army’s 91st Infantry Battalion.

Provincial police director Col. Jaime Santos said the location of the enemy lair was discovered through the help of “Ka Ruel,” a rebel returnee.
