Ecija capital city lights up giant Christmas tree

PALAYAN CITY – This capital city of Nueva Ecija ushered in the Yuletide season with the first ever ceremonial lighting of its giant Christmas tree here Tuesday night, or exactly 39 days to go before Christmas.

City mayor Rianne J. Cuevas, her daughter Vianne Cuevas, Vice Mayor Moises Carmona Jr. along with members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, city hall employees and barangay officials led the grand lighting event at the huge Palayan City Park with special guests, Rizal town mayor Trina Andres and third district board member Jojo Matias.

“This activity symbolizes light and hope that amidst the pandemic, there is still a future worth waiting for all of us. It is my fervent wish for every Palayano and Novo Ecijano to feel the true spirit of Christmas for despite the struggles we are encountering during this pandemic, it won’t stop us from enjoying a merry and bright Christmas,” Cuevas said.

This city’s giant Christmas tree was lit amid grand fireworks display that lasted for several minutes. It was witnessed by several thousands of residents and visitors who trooped to the huge park and got awed by the lighting spectacle.

Meanwhile, Cuevas unveiled the city’s dialysis center here during blessing and inauguration rites held at the RHU building inside the city hall compound on Thursday.

She said it will cater to residents of the city and the province who need not go to far-flung hospitals to get the treatment.

“Bukas na para sa mga Novo Ecijano ang ang ating dialysis center at panigurong sa tulong ng Rianne Cares program, magiging libre at abot-kaya ang gamutan. Maayos na healthcare system, iyan ay kasama sa aking agenda para sa Bagong Nueva Ecija,” Cuevas added.
