E-Painters strike back

RAIN or Shine snapped a two-game losing skid with a hard-earned 75-72 win over Magnolia Pambansang Manok in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Javee Mocon scattered 19 points and eight rebounds, while two-time PBA MVP James Yap came off the bench to add 14 points as the Elasto Painters overcame the Hotshots in a tight and exciting battle and improved to 5-4 overall.

Santi Santillan also played well with 14 points and five rebounds for the Chris Gavina-mentored Elasto Painters, who dropped back-to-back games to Phoenix Super LPG and defending champion Barangay Ginebra at the start of the Bacolor action.

“It comes down to the little details, especially in big games like this against a Magnolia team na playing extremely well,” added Gavina.

Ian Sangalang finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Calvin Abueva added a fifth double-double of 12 and 13 for Magnolia,which dropped to 6-3.

Overshadowed by Rain or Shine’s victory were Talk N Text, which routed NLEX, 100-85, for a league-best 7-1 win-loss record: and San Miguel Beer, which outsteadied Ginebra, 111-102.

Mikey Williams erupted for 36 points on13-of-20 shooting and four other players also scored in double figures for the Tropang Giga, who led by as many as 24 points.

Terrence Romeo had another explosive game of 29 points as the Beemen improved to 5-2 in a tie with Meralco.

Meanwhile, NorthPort Batang Pier gun for their second straight win when they battle Terrafirma Dyip at 2 p.m.today.

Despite playing minus head coach Pido Jarencio and the rest of the coaching staff, the Batang Pier played inspired basketball under interim coach-manager Bonnie Tan and came away with a morale-boosting 98-73 victory over winless Blackwater Elite.

In the other game, Phoenix Super LPG battles Blackwater at 4:35 p.m.
