Dubai-bound boxers get P2.7M from PSC

THE national boing team will compete in the ASBC Asian Boxing championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates carrying the blessings and financial help of the Philippine Sports Commission.

The government agency tasked to oversee amateur sports confirmed that the board has approved the request of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines, Inc. (ABAP) for financial assistance for the for the May 21-June 1 meet, the last regional slugfest scheduled ahead of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The competition was originally set in New Delhi where an overwhelming surge of COVID-19 cases forced Asian Boxing Confederation to shift the competition to Dubai.

The P2-million funding covers expenses for airfare, accommodation, allowance, visa fee, and insurance. Additional funding of P714,750 was also approved to cover their quarantine expenses.

Olympic qualifier Eumir Marcial banners the team that also includesJosie Gabuco, Maricel dela Torre, Mark Lester Durens, Marvin Tabamo, Jummilardo Ogayre, Jere dela Cruz, and John Paul Panauayan.

The team will be accompanied by three coaches, a physiotherapist, masseur and team official.
