Drunk drowns in Ecija man-made lake

GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija – A sexagenarian who was reportedly drunk drowned after he went swimming with his friends at a man-made lake here at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Reports said the lifeless body of the victim, Armenio Nicolas, 65, alias “Boy Gin” was recovered at the deep portion of the lake at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The man-made lake serves as an impounding area for irrigation water in the area.

Police said the victim’s body was finally retrieved more than three hours after members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office led by Michael Calma, assisted by the municipal DRRMO and the Barangay Ayos Lomboy led by Homer Santiago and Richard Solomon, scoured the lake to search for the body.

Before the drowning incident, police said the victim was drinking liquor with his friends when they decided to take a dip in the lake to freshen up.

Witnesses James Ballad and Julius De Leon, both of Bgy. Ayos Lomboy told police they saw the victim and his companion Rogelio Casasiempre swim towards the middle part of the lake with the victim diving into the deep portion of the water and not resurfacing afterward.
