A SPLICED video has thrust outfront anew the need for the authorities to intensify their nationwide information dissemination efforts.

In the view of many, concerned government authorities should never allow confusion and misinformation to deceive the people.

And the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) should be commended for doing its job “immediately.”

Headed by Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, the PNP, the country’s premier law enforcement arm, is civilian in nature but national in scope.

Last Saturday, the PNP, in a press statement, clarified that all police personnel still have to undergo “strict and regular drug testing.

The agency issued the clarification after a spliced video was reportedly edited to create confusion.

The people were made to believe that policemen were no longer required to undergo drug tests.

Of course, this is contrary to “misleading claims” circulating online.

Everybody agrees that there’s an urgent for the government, through its various officies and agencies, to counter fake news and misinformation.”

“Kailangang laging alerto ang mga lingkod-bayan dahil ang bilis kumalat ngayon ang mga balita,” according to a former government information officer.

The PNP deserves the support of the public as it tries to combat fake news and misinformation.
