AN armed drug trafficking suspect was killed in separate shootouts while eight others were arrested in a string of anti-criminality operations across Southern Mindanao late last week, Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) Director Brigadier General Benjamin H. Silo Jr. said Tuesday.

The slain suspect, identified only as alias “Junjun,” died while exchanging fire with undercover officers from the Davao City Police Office in Purok 17, Lower Madapo, Barangay 5-A in Bankerohan district.

Recovered were more than 200 grams of dried marijuana leaves valued at P25,200, the buy-bust money, and an unlicensed caliber .357 revolver with four live ammunition and one spent casing.

According to Silo, members of the Davao City Police Station 2, headed by Maj. Marvin Hugos conducted the sting, which turned into a shootout after the suspect sensed he was dealing with a cop.

The suspect died while being rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

The other suspects were arrested in separate anti-criminality operations in the region, the PRO 11 director said.

One of them, tagged as the 3rd most wanted man in Region 11, was arrested in Bgy. 30-C in Davao City on the strength of a warrant of arrest for rape, acts of lasciviousness, statutory rape by sexual assault, and statutory rape issued by Judge Zara Aguisando-Silvosa of the Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 33 last November 15.

Officers led by P/Lt. Rizalito Clapiz arrested the 52-year-old suspect, who is now being held at the Davao City Police Station 1 lock-up facility.
