A KNOWN drug trafficker in Eastern Visayas was arrested in a police anti-narcotics operation in Catbalogan City in Samar province on Tuesday, Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) Director Brigadier General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil said.

The suspect with the alias “Yeye”, a 33-year-old jobless resident of Barangay 6 in Catbalogan City, yielded four plastic sachets containing shabu and the buy-bust money during the sting in Bgy. Bunu-anan said the PRO8 director.

Members of the Catbalogan City Police Station, led by Lt. Col. Jonathan O. del Rosario, conducted the buy-bust operation following complaints about the illegal drug activities of the suspect.

Officers from the Catbalogan City Police Drug Enforcement Unit led by Capt. Niño T. Cabañas placed the accused under surveillance and launched the actual operation after they confirmed his involvement in the illicit drug trade in the city past 12:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The local police also recovered four more plastic sachets of shabu inside the suspect’s residence, which they raided in a follow-up operation.

Marbil lauded the Samar Police Provincial Office (PPO) led by Col. Peter U. Limbauan and the Catbalogan City police force for their latest anti-drug accomplishment.

He said that the operation is in line with Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.’s order for them to continue an unrelenting “war on drugs”.

“This is a reminder to those who are involved in the illegal drug trade that we are not letting our guards down,” Marbil said.

Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter M. Uy commended the local police force for their proactive anti-criminality campaign, particularly against illegal drugs and loose firearms.

“The City Government of Catbalogan fully supports the efforts of the Catbalogan CPS [Community Precinct Station] to strengthen its campaign against drugs and contribute to national efforts to counter the drug problem,” Mayor Uy said.
