
Drug suspect, cop wounded in Cavite encounter
IMUS CITY, Cavite – As part of the intelligence-driven operations by Bacoor City Police Station (CPS) against illegal drugs and other criminality, an armed encounter occurred Sunday, June 11, 2023, at around 2:30 p.m. in Barangay Zapote 2, Bacoor City, Cavite, wherein one suspect and a police officer were both wounded here.
Bacoor CPS received a call reporting a person was carrying a short firearm in their barangay.
Under the supervision of Police Lt. Col. Jesson Bombasi, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Bacoor CPS, a responding team was dispatched to verify the report.
Upon arrival at the said area, the suspect drew his firearm and shot the operating team, hitting the right chest and arm of Patrolman Mark Paolo Quizon.
In self-defense, the law enforcers fired back, hitting the right arm of the suspect, who was able to run away with his male cohort.
The operatives conducted a hot pursuit operation against the two fleeing suspects, which resulted in the arrest of the first suspect while his cohort managed to flee.
Provincial Forensic Unit processed the crime scene and recovered a cal. 45 pistol, two spent .45 cartridge shells, seven 9mm fired cartridge shells, three deformed bullets and some metallic fragments, a plastic sachet of shabu weighing 12 grams valued at P81,600, and drug paraphernalia.
The wounded suspect was brought to Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital, Bgy. Habay II, Bacoor City, while the cop was sent to St. Dominic Medical Hospital in Bacoor City, and both are in stable condition.
A hot pursuit operation was launched against the escaped cohort of the wounded drug suspect.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A director PBGen. Carlito M. Gaces lauded the swift action of the Cavite police.
“We encourage anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist the authorities in their investigation. We assure the public that we will leave no stone unturned in bringing all individuals involved to justice,” Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) director P/Col. Christopher F. Olazo said.
Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla commended the “heroic” action of Quizon for doing his job as a law enforcer.
