DRIVING under the influence (DUI) of liquor, illegal substances, and illegal drugs is a serious offense, said a ranking official of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

The warning was issued by Atty. Clarence V. Guinto, acting director of LTO-Law Enforcement Service (LTO-LES), after a regional trial court in Naga City, punished a driver for three-month imprisonment and a P20,000 fine after being found guilty.

Guinto said that based on the record of the court, the suspect was found guilty of violating the “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Law of 2013” (Republic Act 10586).

The suspect was arrested after testing “positive” in a joint operation by LTO-Central Office and LTO-Region 5 at the stretch of Pamplona Camarines Sur while driving under the influence of liquor and illegal drugs.

In this development, Guinto said Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III ordered an “all-out war” against motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
