Driver in viral hit-run of street sweeper, 63, falls
AUTHORITIES arrested a 42-year old man involved in hit-and-run incident that went viral on social media showing how he ran over an elderly street sweeper woman and immediately sped off Saturday morning in Paranaque City.
Southern Police District (SPD) Acting Director P/Col. Kirby John Brion Kraft identified the suspect as Raymond Zaparain, resident of Las Pinas City. He was arrested by responding policemen hours after the incident that happened at around 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Aguirre and Elizalde Avenues was caught on close circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the area.
In a video that went viral, the 63-year-old street sweeper, Doreen Bacus was doing her job in the area when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by the suspect ran over her.
The victim was rushed by concerned citizens to Ospital ng Paranaque before she was transferred to the Philippine General Hospital where she is still under observation.
Police are set to file charges against the suspect for frustrated homicide and violation of Article 275 (2) or abandonment of persons in danger and abandonment of one’s victim before the Paranaque City Prosecutor’s Office.
Meanwhile, Lawyer Clarence V. Guinto, Director of the LTO-National Capital Region-West said Transportation Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III, immediately approved the suspension of the professional driver’s license of Zaparain.
Guinto said Zaparain was also summoned to report before the LTO-NCR-West head office in Araneta Avenue in Quezon City on Tuesday (September 27, 2022 at 2 p.m., for further investigation why his vehicle and driver’s license should not be revoked for allegedly violating traffics.
