THE Department of Transportation’s Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) announced its anti-colorum campaign is gaining success.

In just one week, from December 1 to December 9, 2023, the SAICT apprehended 3 buses and 11 vans, resulting in a total haul of P5.2 million.

The SAICT, together with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and its combined operatives, has been working tirelessly to combat the proliferation of colorum vehicles in Metro Manila.

Colorum vehicles, or illegally operating public utility vehicles (PUVs), pose a significant threat to public safety and the overall efficiency of the transportation system.

The SAICT’s efforts are in line with the Department of Transportation’s commitment to ensuring a comfortable, safe, sustainable and affordable transport network for all Filipinos.

Under the leadership of the DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, the SAICT has been implementing a comprehensive anti-colorum strategy that includes intensified operations, intelligence gathering and collaboration with various law enforcement agencies.

Through this cohesive approach, the SAICT aims to eradicate colorum vehicles from Metro Manila’s roads, thereby improving commuter safety and reducing traffic congestion.

The recent apprehension of 3 buses and 11 vans is a testament to the SAICT’s unwavering dedication and effectiveness. The operation was carefully planned, executed with precision and resulted in the confiscation of plates of these unauthorized PUVs.

The estimated value of the total haul of P5.2 million in just 1 week, represents a significant blow to illegal transport operators.

The SAICT’s relentless pursuit of this campaign is just one of the many initiatives being undertaken by the DOTr to improve transportation in the country.
