DEPARTMENT of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista assured Filipinos that his department is committed to ensuring the completion of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).

This, as Bautista led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the subway’s underground stations and tunnels in Quezon Avenue and East Avenue in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City.

The DOTr chief said the subway project will benefit not only Filipinos from a comfortable, affordable, safe, sustainable, and accessible railway system but also the generation of new jobs coming from the subway’s completion.

“We would like to reiterate our gratitude to the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the loan package that makes possible the very first subway train system of the Philippines,” Bautista said.

Once completed, the country’s first subway system will reduce travel time between Valenzuela City to Pasay City from one hour and 38 minutes to 45 minutes while the estimated daily ridership is 519,000 passengers.
