THE Philippines was nominated as the “Most Desirable Country” in the United Kingdom’s longest-running travel magazine, a development called by Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco as “affirmations that the world welcomes the reintroduction of the Philippines.”

Cebu was also nominated as the Most Desirable Region and Palawan as the Most Desirable Island for this year’s Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.

In addition to the three nominations, the Philippines can also be voted for specific categories, including Adventure, Nature and Wildlife, Culture and Heritage, Gastronomy, and Sustainable Experience.

Frasco said that these recognitions from respected institutions are a testament to the timeless beauty of the country and the hardwork and initiatives of the public and private sector post-pandemic to elevate the ranking of the Philippines as a global destination offering a wide range of tourism offerings.

“These nominations, on top of the three million foreign arrivals which we have recently reached, are affirmations that the world welcomes our reintroduction of the Philippines on the strength of its many attributes, highlighting a multitude of reasons to love the Philippines.

These recognitions are also a reflection of the relentless efforts made to open up the Philippines again to tourism and travel with a stronger foundation focused on infrastructure, connectivity, digitalization and an enhanced overall tourism experience,” she added.

Last year, the country’s award-winning destination Palawan bagged the Gold Award for the Most Desirable Island for the Rest of the World category under the same nomination.
