DOT aids passengers affected by ‘glitch’
THE Department of Tourism (DOT) has activated its ground personnel in various airports throughout the country to assist travelers affected by flight cancellations, delays and diversions caused by the power outage on January 1 that affected 282 flights.
In a public advisory dated January 2, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco directed the Department’s ground personnel to extend help to travelers requesting assistance.
“The DOT staff stationed at the airports continue to provide information and assistance to tourists,” the advisory reads.
Tourists at the same time are also advised to constantly monitor updates primarily on their flight schedules through the official social media platforms and websites of the Department of Transportation and airlines.
It said the DOT together with its regional offices have been in close coordination with the concerned local government units, stakeholders, and other relevant offices in monitoring the situation of tourists across the country who are affected by flight diversions, delays, cancellations.
For assistance, travelers may approach a DOT designated helpdesk or send a message at the verified social media pages of the tourism department to report a tourism-related issue.
Transport officials on Sunday said an “outdated” system caused the glitch that caused the closure of Philippine airspace.
