MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday assured the public it is continuously monitoring the COVID-19 case trends nationwide.

In a statement, the DOH said the incremental increase in reproduction number from 0.82 at the start of March 2022 to 1.03 last April 22 “was small and not sustained,” referring to a report by OCTA Research Group that there was an increase in reproduction number in the National Capital Region.

Reproduction number is just one of the metrics used by the department to monitor and assess the COVID-19 situation in the country.

“Such changes have not led to any sustained increases in admissions. Severe and critical contributions to admissions have likewise remained constant,” the department said, adding that total COVID-19 beds and intensive care unit beds utilization rates were maintained at a low level.

However, the DOH reminded the public that case numbers and trends may rise if there is no compliance with the minimum public health standards.

It also encouraged the public to get fully vaccinated and receive booster shots.

As of April 27, the OCTA Research Group said the NCR’s reproduction number is 0.71 which is slightly higher than 0.62 of the previous week of April 14 to 20.

Its positivity rate remained the same at 1.4 percent.

NCR’s seven-day average of new cases went down to 77 from 99 for the period of April 21 to 22.

Its one-week average daily attack rate also went down to 0.54 from 0.66 for the period of April 14 to 20. PNA
