WITH crowds returning to malls and other public places after the National Capital Region shifted to Alert Level 3last Saturday, the Department of Health yesterday urged the public to continue complying with minimum public health standards.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reminded the public not to be complacent even while the COVID -19 situation in Metro Manila continues to improve.

“Bagamat marami na po sa atin ang fully-vaccinated, hindi pa po tayo pwedeng maging complacent at this point, let us remember na nakasalalay po sa atin kung tayo ay babalik ulit sa Alert Level 4 or kung babalik na naman sa cycle natin na tataas-bababa ang kaso,” she said.

Restrictions in Metro Manila have been relaxed, allowing many establishments to open at 30-percent capacity and exclusively to fully vaccinated individuals.

Based on DOH data, the nationwide hospital COVID bed capacity is down to nearly 49 percent while intensive care unit utilization is at 62.3 percent. In Metro Manila, only 43.6 percent of hospital beds reserved for COVID-19 patients are occupied.

Only the Zamboanga Peninsula region remained under high-risk status despite a plateau in the two-week growth rate because of the high 70.29-percent hospital utilization rate and average daily attack rate of 9.24 cases per 100,000 population.

Other areas with high hospital utilization rates are the Cordillera Administrative Region with 83 percent and the Cagayan Valley region with 75 percent.
