DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin Tulfo on Sunday assured that they will start today, Monday (July 4), the distribution of the P500 cash aid that the government had promised to our poor countrymen, in response to the rising prices of commodities in the country.

DSWD targets that 12.4 million Filipino beneficiaries under the Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) Program will receive the said assistance this week.

Tulfo said the process of depositing the grant to the beneficiaries’ cash cards will start this Monday morning and may only take five to six days.

“Tumawag po sa akin nitong Sabado si Pangulong BBM para kumustahin kung kailan maibibigay ang ayuda ng mga tao, sabi ko, ‘sa Lunes ng umaga po Sir,’” Sec. Tulfo said.

It can be recalled that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released last Friday the P6.2 billion in monthly assistance to Filipinos who belonged to the so-called ‘low-income families.’

“Makakatulong ang halagang ito para sa ating mga kababayan na mahihirap lalo na’t patuloy pa ring tumataas ang presyo ng mga bilihin dahil na rin sa krisis na kinahaharap ng buong mundo,” the secretary said.

The Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) Program pertains to the provision of a P500 monthly cash grant program to poor Filipinos. Former Pres. Duterte issued the directive last May, but the fund for the program was released only last Friday, under the administration of Pres. Marcos Jr..

This program will be implemented by DSWD for six months to help the people who are suffering due to soaring prices of fuel and commodities.

The beneficiaries who will receive assistance consist of 4 million families from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps); 6 million non-4Ps who were former beneficiaries of the Unconditional Cash Transfer Program; and 2.4 families on the DSWD ‘List’ or poverty data.

Tulfo also appealed to the beneficiaries to put their grant to good use by buying food and other needed necessities.

He also warned them that using it in other illegal activities, such as gambling, may result in the forfeiture of their grants.

“Para ito sa pamilya ninyo kaya’t hiling ko ay gamitin niyo ito sa ayos at huwag sayangin sa anumang ilegal na bagay,” Tulfo added.

Under the directive of President BBM, Tulfo assured that the government is always there to help the Filipinos especially in their times of need.
