THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday raised alert level 1 in Israel and alert level 2 in Gaza, respectively as fighting continues to escalate between Hamas and Israelis.

Filipino workers in Israel and West Bank were told to follow the advice of the host government and the Philippine Embassy while those is Gaza were asked to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for possible evacuation.

Alert 1 means the area is under precautionary phase while alert 2 means restriction phase.

There are 29,473 Filipino workers in Israel and 91 are in Gaza, the DFA said.

The fightings began when Hamas fired long-range rockets toward Jerusalem in support of Palestinian protests against Israel’s policing of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.
