THE Philippines condemned the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK’s) latest missile launches, further increasing “tension and undermining peace and stability in an already volatile region.”

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) also called on all parties to exercise utmost restraint.

The DFA called on the DPRK to comply with its obligations under the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and to commit to the process of constructive and peaceful dialogue with the Republic of Korea.

On Wednesday, the DPRK fired at least 23 missiles into the sea, including one that landed less than 60 km (40 miles) off South Korea’s coast, prompting the latter to issue an air raid alert on the island.

South Korea responded by launching its own missiles in the same border area.

The launches came just hours after Pyongyang protested the United States and South Korea military drills.
