THE charges filed against inmate Jad Dera and six security officers from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) stemming from their recent arrests for unauthorized furlough are now deemed submitted for resolution.

This was after Dera and the security officers – one (1) plantilla position and and five job orders – submitted their counter-affidavits during preliminary investigation at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“Nag-submit ng counter-affidavit ‘yung escorts, ‘yung mga NBI. Five of them job only contracting. ‘Yung isa regular employee. Nagsubmit na rin si Dera ng counter-affidavit. Everybody submitted a counter-affidavit. Submitted na po for resolution ‘yung kaso na isinampa na bribery, corruption of public officials, infidelity in the custody of prisoners, and graft and corruption, ” Atty. Raymund Palad told reporters in a chance interview.

Dera, a co-accused of former senator Leila de Lima in illegal drug charges, faces charges of corruption of public officials/employees, while the six NBI security personnel have been accused of violating Republic Act No. 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) during the inquest at the DOJ.

Dera was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday while attempting to re-enter the NBI detention facility in Manila after an unauthorized trip.

According to Atty. Mico Clavano, Justice Assistant Secretary and spokesperson, Dera was found in possession of an undisclosed amount of cash, firearms, and a cellular phone.
