THE Department of Education (DepEd) condemned the killing of a high school (HS) principal in Albay.

Police said Dr. Beverly Cabaltera, principal of Pio Duran National High School in Albay and a Red Cross volunteer, on Wednesday was gunned down in her own home.

“We have been informed today that a shooting incident resulting [in] death happened in the residence of our personnel early this morning. “We condemn this act of violence against our teacher.

We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” the DepEd Region V said in a statement.

The DepEd said they had notified the school division superintendent of Albay to coordinate with the local authorities and the victim’s family for immediate assistance.

“We are hoping that the swift and appropriate action of the local PNP [Philippine National Police] will bring justice to the death of our personnel,” DepEd added.

The 53-year-old educator principal was found by her own son on the floor, unconscious.

The police showed CCTV (closed-circuit television) camera footage of two men breaking and entering the residence.

She was a youth adviser for the Red Cross who has led efforts into the nearby islands during disasters, a mother of three, and wife of a policeman.
