Departure bldg of Borongan City Airport inaugurated

THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) officially led the inauguration of the new departure terminal building of Borongan City Airport on June 19, 2023, following the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between CAAP and the Borongan City Government last June 13, 2023.

During the Inauguration Ceremony, CAAP, together with the Borongan City Government unveiled the commemorative plaque placed in front of the new terminal building.

The New Departure Terminal Building is one of the maintenance and development projects undertaken by the city government for the Borongan Airport that has been officially turned over to CAAP.

CAAP Director General Capt. Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the Borongan City government for its achievement. He also remarked his optimism on collaborative efforts by the national and local governments in the development of aviation infrastructure towards a shared vision for economic growth and national development.

The community airport, which serves the general area of Borongan and other municipalities in Eastern Samar, opened its doors to commercial operations last December 2022.

According to the Borongan City Airport Flight Operations Chairman, Ruperto Ambil III, the airport had a total passenger movement of 4,022 passengers and 86 flights from December 2022 to May 2023. The New Departure Terminal Building intends to provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for the increasing number of passengers in the Borongan Airport.

The event was attended by CAAP Director General Tamayo, CAAP Chief Finance Officer Marianne Raymundo, CAAP Deputy Director General Atty. Danjun G. Lucas, CAAP Assistant Director General II Col. Valentino Dionela, CAAP Officer-in-Charge of the Corporate Planning Office Atty. Edeliza Iruguin, and Atty. Anna Castigador. Distinguished guests of the event include Consul General Hideki Yamaji of the Consulate General of Japan in Cebu, Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda, Vice Mayor Emmanuel Tiu Sonco, Eastern Samar Governor Ben P. Evardone, members of the City Council of Borongan, and other local agency officials.

The construction of the new terminal building symbolizes a new gateway of opportunities, connectivity, and possibilities, and the shared vision for economic growth and progress in service of its community. The completion of the New Departure Terminal Building in Borongan Airport is also a testament to the vision of Borongan City and CAAP, through initiative and leadership, to widen its doors to more guests, better growth and connectivity, and greater heights.
