THE Taguig City government clarified on Monday that the single and isolated reported case of Delta variant from a Taguig-bound returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was detected as early as May.

City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance head Dr. Jun Sy said the OFW underwent quarantine upon arrival in the country and has been cleared from the virus.

Sy added that the patient was not released from quarantine until he recovered, and was never able to set foot in Taguig when he was still infected with the virus.

Even before any case of the Delta variant was detected in the country, the Taguig Safe City Task Force formed Special Task Group Delta Force to prepare for the possibility of local transmission of the said variant in the community.

To date, none of those who have been genome sampled was found to have the Delta variant.

“We continue to remain vigilant and implement the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate strategy against all COVID-19 variants to ensure the continued protection of Taguigeños,” Dr Sy said.

Earlier, Taguig Safe City Task Force head Clarence Santos reported the first case of Delta variant among Taguig residents which she said came from City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit or CEDSU.
