DEG agents haul 14 drug suspects to jail

FOURTEEN wanted drug personalities were hauled to jail by agents of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) this week amid the unit’s continuing resolve to do its job, PNP-DEG director, Brigadier General Faro Antonio O. Olaguera said on Friday.

In a report to PNP chief, Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said that one of the suspects was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Guinobatan, Albay around 4 p.m. last Tuesday which led to the seizure of ten grams of shabu worth P68,000.

Olaguera said the 64-year-old suspect with the alias “Bindalen” was listed as a “high-value individual” (HVI) in Bicol.

He said that the accused was arrested by members of the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit (SOU) 5 with the support of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 Regional Intelligence Unit and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and the Albay Provincial Police Office (PPO) under Brig. Gen. Westrimundo Obinque.

Apart from the drugs, the suspect also yielded the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill, a weighing scale, and several drug paraphernalia.

The suspect is now facing a non-bailable case for the sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Olaguera said that the other suspects were all arrested in manhunt operations launched by his men in different parts of the country.

The 13 were all the subject of court orders for service of sentence and violation of RA 9165 issued by different courts nationwide, said the official who has ordered all PNP-DEG operating units nationwide to continue going after wanted drug personalities in their jurisdiction.

One of the 13, the subject of an order for service of the sentence issued by the Bacolod City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 49, was apprehended in Bgy. Banago in Bacolod City on Thursday afternoon.

The 2nd suspect was arrested based on an order for service of the sentence issued by the Pasig City RTC Br. 68 in Bgy. Salapan in San Juan City on Thursday.

Another wanted suspect was arrested on the same basis in Bgy. West Crame in San Juan City Thursday. The Pasig City RTC Br. 68 ordered his commitment to jail.

The 4th, was arrested in Malabon City on Wednesday on the strength of a warrant for violation of RA 9165 issued by the Malabon City RTC Br. 73.

The 5th, was arrested in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday. The Mandaluyong City RTC Br. 281 ordered him to serve his sentence.

The 6th, was arrested on the basis of a non-bailable warrant for sale and possession of prohibited drugs issued by the Tagum City RTC Br. 30 in Davao del Norte also last Wednesday.

The 7th, was arrested on the same day in Caloocan City on the basis of a warrant issued by the Caloocan City RTC Br. 120.

The 8th, was arrested on the strength of a warrant of arrest for violation of RA 9165 issued by the Bacolod City RTC Br. 50 with no bail recommended for his temporary liberty.

The 9th, was arrested in Binalonan, Pangasinan on the basis of an order for service of the sentence issued by the Malabon City RTC Br. 72.

The 10th, was tracked down in her hiding place in Caloocan City and arrested on the basis of a warrant issued by the Caloocan City RTC Br. 120.

Another accused was arrested last Tuesday on the strength of a service of sentence order issued by the Surigao City RTC Br. 29.

The 12th, was served another non-bailable warrant of arrest for sale and possession of dangerous drugs inside the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) compound in Argao, Cebu where he is being held on other criminal charges on Tuesday.

The 13th, was also served another non-bailable warrant of arrest for violation of RA 9165 issued by the Argao, Cebu RTC Br. 26. The suspect was found inside the local BJMP facility.
