ANAKALUSUGAN Party-list Representative Michael “Mike” Defensor and his allies have set aside politics and expressed cooperation with the local government unit to fight off another surge of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement, Defensor said the Malayang Quezon City group is now ready to cooperate and coordinate their efforts with the local government led by Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Defensor, a mayoralty candidate in Quezon City, said they are devoting additional resources, and deploying more people on the ground to help COVID-19 stricken families.

“We are referring suspected new infections to testing centers as well as isolation facilities, and we are also providing food and medicines to affected households,” Defensor said.

“For now, we’ve set aside our political differences so that we can concentrate in helping to contain the surge in new infections,” he added.

Quezon City’s cumulative COVID-19 caseload has reached 218,583 as of Jan. 15, up by 38,183 cases since Jan. 4, according to the Department of Health’s COVID-19 Tracker.
