ALOPECIA is an autoimmune skin disorder that causes hair loss including hair on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes and other areas of the body. It starts to become more apparent as we age and for some, it’s genetics.

In our country, it is uncommon to have discussions about alopecia since it is not a life-threatening condition. But Filipinos also experience hair loss and some tend to just ignore it, thinking that it’s normal. September was alopecia awareness month to spread knowledge to have a better understanding of it. Here are some debunking myths about alopecia:

Myth #1 Alopecia is contagious. Alopecia is not contagious since it is not made up of viruses and bacteria which makes it not transmissible from one person to another.

Myth #2 Alopecia is a form of cancer. This is not true. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease with its most common symptom of being stressed or a side effect of some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer patients that can result in hair fall or hair loss, but the hair usually grows back.

Myth #3 Hair will never grow back. There are rare forms of alopecia called scarring Alopecia that can lead to permanent hair loss if diagnosed late. But there are precautionary measures and different procedures to treat alopecia.

Myth #4 There is no effective treatment for alopecia. While there is no cure yet for alopecia, treatments are used to stimulate follicles to help hair regrow more quickly and can possibly prevent future hair loss.

With these reasons, Dr. Vinson B. Pineda, together with other dermatologists, saw the need to formulate a product for hair regrowth. He introduced Regroe, the first-ever hair regrowth product to use Minoxidil as its main ingredient in the country and the only FDA approved hair loss treatment.

To support and complement the hair regrowth, Dr. Pineda also developed Pregroe, a four-in one hair thickening shampoo and conditioner. For best results, it is recommended to use Pregroe while using Regroe, to help the hair to grow stronger, longer, healthier, fuller and thicker.

Pineda’s commitment to further stay ahead of his competitors led him to intensify his knowledge and expertise in Dermatologic Surgery, under the direct mentorship of Dr. Norman Orentreich, the Father of Modern Hair Transplantation.

Dr. Pineda brought dermatological advancements and redefined hair technology to the Philippines. Introducing Modern Hair Plant Surgery eventually widens his scope with different procedures like Medical Haircial Treatments, S-Cell Hair Growth Systems and Advanced Hair Transplants.

These advanced hair procedures, services and hair-care services are available at Dermclinic stores, major supermarkets and drug stores nationwide.
