DEATH THREAT PROBE
THE Presidential Security Group and the Philippine National Police leaderships are not taking lightly the statement of Vice President Sara Duterte that she has already hired a person to kill President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin has already referred the matter to the PSG ‘for immediate proper action’ as they considered the VP’s statement as an active threat.
For his part, PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil said they treat any threat to the safety and security of the President and all public officials with the utmost seriousness
In light of VP Duterte’s recent statement which directly referenced an assassin contracted to target the President, the top cop said they already recognizes the grave nature of this matter.
Thus, he directed the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) headed by Brigadier Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation into this issue.
“The safety of the President is a national concern and any direct or indirect threat to his life must be addressed with the highest level of urgency,” said Gen. Marbil.
“We assure the public that the PNP will work diligently to ensure the safety of all concerned and will take the necessary legal actions in accordance with the law. The PNP remains committed to upholding public safety and maintaining peace across the nation,” the PNP chief added.
Last Friday night, VPDuterte said in an online press conference that she had already talked to a person whom she instructed to kill President Marcos Jr., his wife Liza, and cousin Speaker Ferdinand Martin T. Romualdez if she is killed.
“Acting on the Vice President’s clear and unequivocal statement that she had contracted an assassin to kill the President if an alleged plot against her succeeds, the Executive Secretary has referred this active threat to the Presidential Security Command for immediate proper action,” the Palace said.
“Any threat to the life of the President must always be taken seriously, more so that this threat has been publicly revealed in clear and certain terms,” it added.
Duterte made the statements during a joint press conference with her chief of staff Attorney Zuleika Lopez who has been cited for contempt by the House of Representatives and ordered jailed for her refusal to cooperate with the ongoing investigation into purported misuse of public funds by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education under Duterte.
“May kinausap na ako na tao. Sinabi ko sa kanya, ‘Kapag pinatay ako, patayin mo si BBM, si Liza Araneta, at si Martin Romualdez.’ No joke, no joke. Nagbilin na ako,” the vice president said.
