PLDT showcased its firepower and unyielding drive for redemption with a commanding 25-22, 25-16, 25-15 victory over Akari in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference preliminaries Saturday night at the Philsports Arena.

Savi Davison bounced back from a shaky start to lead the High Speed Hitters with a stellar offensive performance in the second and third sets.

Moving in a tie with Chery Tiggo at 4-2, PLDT kept within distance of defending champion Creamline, unbeaten in four matches, PetroGazz (5-1) and Cignal (4-1).

Davison’s effort, combined with a near-flawless team showing in the third frame, turned the match into a lopsided affair.

The victory also served as sweet revenge for the High Speed Hitters, who lost controversial five-set match to the Chargers during the Reinforced Conference last year that gave hype to the match-up.

“I feel happy and enjoyed the game the whole time,” said Majoy Baron, who delivered 11 points with an impressive 61.11 percent attack efficiency.

“We came in prepared since this was the first game of the year, and we stuck to our game plan,” she added.

Davison led PLDT with 15 points, including two blocks, and six receptions, while Erika Santos added 10 points.

Setter Angge Alcantara orchestrated the offense brilliantly, tallying 12 of the team’s 13 excellent sets and adding four points of her own.

Meanwhile, Akari struggled to find its rhythm, missing the services of star player Grethcel Soltones due to a minor knee injury.

Faith Nisperos paced the Chargers with 11 points, as Ivy Lacsina was limited to just six points.

Akari libero Justine Jazareno, made her return to the court after taking a leave of absence due to pregnancy. She collected 10 digs.

The High Speed Hitters outscored the Chargers in attacks (45-27) and blocks (9-3), showcasing their superiority throughout the match.

PLDT will next face Choco Mucho, which went through the wringer before beating ZUS Coffee, on Thursday at the same Pasig venue.

On the same day, Akari seeks to bounce back against Nxled.
