Davao region cops arrest 300 drug suspects in October
STEPPED-UP anti-narcotics campaign in the entire Southern Mindanao region by the Police Regional Office 11 last October resulted in the arrest of 300 drug suspects and the confiscation of some P9.4 million worth of shabu and dried marijuana leaves, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
PRO11 director Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Z. Rosete, in a report to Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, said among the 300 suspects arrested were 40 “high-value individuals” engaged in big-time shabu trafficking in the region.
The rest were described as “street-level individuals” or those involved in street-level drug trafficking.
One of those arrested was an alias “JP,” tagged as Region 11’s most wanted drug trafficker.
The suspect’s arrest also led to the dismantling of two major drug dens in Davao City, which the official described as a “significant breakthrough in their anti-drug campaign.”
“This contributes to ongoing efforts to dismantle drug operations at both local and regional levels,” Rosete said.
The official said that last month also saw his men accounting for nearly 1.304 grams of shabu valued at around P8.9 million and nearly 3.2 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves worth at least P423,000.
“These arrests and seizures were part of our recalibrated approach to combat illegal drugs and as ordered by Gen. Marbil. We are bent on stopping the drug chain, not killing drug suspects,” said the PRO11 director.
The arrested suspects are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
