LETRAN’s Christian Mark Daluz completed a perfect campaign in the juniors division by besting Lyceum of the Philippines University’s Leonel Escote in the NCAA online chess finals yesterday.

A native of Bulan, Sorsogon, Daluz went undefeated in five matches to cap his high school career with a bang.

Fide Master Daluz started his run by beating last season’s MVP Gal Brien Palasigue of San Beda in the elimination round.

Daluz then topped University of Perpetual Help System Dalta’s Jerome Angelo Aragones in the Round of 16 before trouncing Arellano University’s Jasper Faeldonia in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, the 19-year old Daluz sustained his impressive showing in the competition by beating Paul Matthew Llanillo of the Junior Pirates to forge a showdown with Escote for the gold.

A former MVP and a two-time NCAA champion, Daluz represented the country and won six medals in the 20th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship in Mandalay, Myanmar two years ago.

The seniors competition, meanwhile, starts today at 5:05 p.m.
