THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has issued two administrative circulars (AC) that will protect animals from inhumane treatment.

Secretary William Dar said the issuance of the two ACs is in support to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) which called the attention of the government for the protection of animals from “unfriendly” treatment in the media and entertainment industry.

The other circular, is for the protection of imported cats and dogs in temporary holding areas for airport quarantine.

Signed last March 26, the ACs in its guidelines emphasized the inhumane use of animals in the media and entertainment while the other one as a supplemental guideline for the importation of pet dogs and cats.

The ceremonial signing was witnessed by PAWS volunteers with Program Director Anna Cabrera, and officials from the DA-Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).

“Let me thank PAWS for bringing this to the attention of the Department of Agriculture. We have to be humane in terms of handling our dogs and cats. We signed two admin circulars in relation to this effort, to really take good care our dogs and cats,” Secretary Dar said.

During the ceremony, PAWS also presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the agri chief for his support to animal welfare through various DA programs.
