CV cops seize over P100M shabu since January
THE anti-narcotics campaign of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 headed by Brigadier General Redrico A. Maranan since the start of the year has already resulted in the confiscation of more than P100 million worth of shabu, the Journal Group learned.
The official reported to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil that those anti-narcotics operations also resulted in the arrest of dozens of top drug suspects in the region.
Brig. Gen. Maranan said that from January 1 to 31, 2025, they confiscated some P98.4 million worth of shabu and 25 grams of marijuana as part of their proactive initiative against illegal drugs.
The former PNP spokesperson also emphasized that their successful campaign against illegal drugs, firearms and gambling as well as wanted criminals in the region were all ‘bloodless.’
The official said that last January, they confiscated 14,471.34 grams of shabu worth P98,406,672 along with 25 grams of dried marijuana leaves.
The month also saw different PRO-7 operating units conducting 678 anti-drug operations which resulted in the arrest of 787 of their targets, all now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“Notably, there were no reported fatalities throughout this period,” he said.
Brig. Gen. Maranan said that among the 787 targets jailed, 54 were identified as ‘High-Value Targets,’ another 517 were ‘Street-Level Individuals’ or those involved in street-level drug pushing activities while 216 were newly-identified drug dealers.
Recently, PRO-7 operatives also arrested one of their top drug targets during a buy-bust in Tagbilaran City, Bohol which resulted in the confiscation of some P1.4 million worth of shabu.
Brig. Gen. Maranan said that confiscated from the target were some 200 grams of shabu valued at P1.360 million.
He said that members of the Bohol Police Provincial Office Drug Enforcement Unit, with the support of the Tagbilaran City Police Station, the PRO-7 Regional Intelligence Unit and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, spearheaded the successful anti-drug operation.
Also recovered from the suspect were the buy-bust money topped by a marked bill and the mobile phone he used in making the transaction with the poseur.
The official said the Tagbilaran City sting was the latest they have conducted in line with their major effort to combat illegal drug trafficking and abuse in Central Visayas.
Last week also saw the PRO-7 accounting for 639 targets and more than three kilograms of shabu worth P22.9 million.
Brig. Gen. Maranan said those operations targeted loose firearms and ammunition, wanted individuals, illegal gambling activities, and drug-related crimes as they are all part of the strategy to ensure public safety and security during the election period.
He said that from February 10 to 12, his men arrested 206 individuals linked to drug activities, resulting in the confiscation of 3,379.28 grams of shabu worth P22,979,104.
One operation in Sitio Mahusay in Brgy. Subangdaku in Mandaue City last Feb. 11 led in the arrest of a 23-year old drug target after he sold a kilo of shabu valued at P6.8 million to a poseur.
Another anti-drug operation in Sitio San Juan in Bgy. Mambaling, Cebu City led to the confiscation of 725 grams of shabu valued at P4.930 million.
Last Feb. 12, PRO-7 operatives also seized a kilo of shabu from a drug suspect in Purok 3, Brgy. Upper Dela Paz in Cortes, Bohol.
The official commended the collaboration among various law enforcement agencies involved in the operation, highlighting their commitment to addressing the drug problem in the region.
“This operation represents our ongoing dedication to shield our communities from the dangers of illegal drugs. I commend the efforts of the Bohol police and the Boholanos for their shared commitment to maintaining safety and peace in the province,” Brig. Gen. Maranan said.
