PHILIPPINE Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Chairman Junie E. Cua was awarded the Philippine Red Cross’ (PRC) Doña Aurora Aragon Award on Tuesday, April 18.

The award was conferred to Cua during the PRC’s 33rd Biennial Convention, which was held in Manila.

According to PRC, the award is due to his “outstanding contribution to the efforts of the Quirino Chapter that is instrumental in the delivery of life-saving services in communities deeply affected by disaster and other emergencies.”

“I am truly humbled by this recognition. Hindi tayo naglilingkod para makakuha ng award, ngunit nakakataba po ng puso ang ganitong pagkilala dahil ibig sabihin ay may impact ang ating mga effort,” Cua said.

“This award gives me renewed vigor to tackle my new duties, which have a much greater scope. But our people can rest assured that I will continue to give my best efforts in serving them,” he added.

Cua also vowed that he would strive to have the same impact as the PCSO chair.

The agency continues to look for ways so that more Filipinos could benefit from its programs, he said.

“We want to make the PCSO synonymous not just to charity but also to service and reliability. Ang pangarap natin para sa PCSO, na adhikain din ni Pres. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., ay maging kaagapay ng pamilyang Pilipino ang PCSO sa mga pangangailangan nila,” said Cua.

The Doña Aurora Aragon Award is named after the PRC’s first chairperson, Aurora Aragon Quezon and awarded only to volunteers who have proven their commitment to the Red Cross’ cause.

The PRC recently marked its 75th founding anniversary.
