CTG leader’s arrest a big relief to poll candidates
THE arrest of a high-ranking leader of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) is a gain to the government, a sigh of relief to the candidates of the May 2025 election, and a big loss to the enemy, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said yesterday.
Myrna Cruz-Abraham, 69, of Pasig City, was arrested at a supermarket on Cagayan Valley Road, in Bgy. Cruz na Daan, San Rafael, Bulacan, by virtue of an arrest warrant for murder and frustrated murder related to her involvement in previous encounters that took place in Northern Luzon.
According to QCPD spokesperson Capt. Febbie Madrid, the CTG leader played a major role in the group’s illegalities where she was in charge of overseeing training, recruitment, organization and mobilization activities under aliases Ka Jessie, Geli, Lumen, and Alfie.
Cruz-Abraham who also served as head of the Regional Education Department (RED), was the one tasked for the direct implementation of the CTG’s education and training programs, both political and military.
“Napakalaking accomplishment ito ng QCPD and of course in coordination with other law enforcement (agency) dahil sa naging matagumpay ang pagsagawa ng pag-aresto dito sa personality na ito,. . . ito ay malaking kawalan sa kanila and of course gain sa atin sa government because nabawasan at di na sila makapag recruit pa sa mga vulnerable sectors, sa ating mga kabataan,” Madrid said at the QC Journalists’ Group yesterday.
The operation stemmed from months-long surveillance prompted by a tip from a concerned citizen regarding recruitment activities by CTG members.
After verification, it was established that Cruz-Abraham had existing warrants of arrest for frustrated murder related to her involvement in encounters in Northern Luzon.
Investigation further revealed that Cruz-Abraham is the current Secretary of the Metro Manila Regional Party Committee (MMRPC) and the head of its Regional Organizational Department (ROD).
As a core leader, she played a significant role in the CTIG’s operations, including decision-making on nationwide extortion activities.
When asked if the arrest could be a sort of a “sigh of relief” to the candidates of the May 2025 elections considering the CTG’s extortion activities through revolutionary taxes and demanding of campaign fees.
“It’s a sort of (sigh of relief) talagang malaking relief sya sa mga binibiktima nila all-over the country. So yun magkakaroon tayo ng isang patas at peaceful na 2025 elections,” Madrid said.
