Criminology stude yields P.5M “MJ”

LUCENA CITY— Police operatives on Wednesday arrested during a drug bust a Criminology student for alleged possession of some P.5 million worth of suspected marijuana at Purok Riverside, Brgy.1, this city.

Newly-installed Quezon police director Col. Ledon Monte said the 22-year-old suspect was collared during a buy-bust by Intelligence operatives of the Lucena City police under Lt. Col. Reynaldo Reyes, along with elements of Quezon Provincial Intelligence Unit, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Philm Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)- Quezon.

Reyes said the suspect was allegedly in the act of selling 12 large plastic sachets containing 1,383.7 grams of dried marijuana leaves with a street value of P498,192.00 to a poseur buyer when accosted by the lawmen.

The police official added that the operation and accounting of the seized evidence were witnessed by village officials and media representatives.

The suspect was placed behind bars and will be charged with violation of Section 5, Article 2 of RA 9165 pending the results of the examination to be conducted by the Provincial Crime Laboratory Office.

Calabarzon police director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. has commended the Quezon Police Provincial Office led by Monte for a job well done.
