A MEMBER of a “dreaded” criminal group who was behind the series of robbery hold-ups and carnapping in some cities in Metro Manila and the nearby provinces was arrested, along with two others, at a police checkpoint Wednesday evening in Taguig City.

Southern Police District (SPD) Acting District Director P/Col. Kirby John Kraft identified the arrested suspect with the alias “Macling”, a member of “Bobby Arao Robbery Group” responsible for a series of robbery hold-ups in Taguig, Makati, Muntinlupa, and Pasig cities and in the nearby province of Bulacan, along with his two back riders including a 16-year-old boy.

Kraft said joint elements of Taguig Police Sub Station-4 and Intelligence Unit operatives were conducting Oplan-Sita along Ruhale St. Brgy. Calzada-Tipas at around 11:50 p.m. when they flagged down the trio on board a single motorcycle without wearing helmets.

When asked for his driver’s license and certificate of registration of his driven motorcycle, Garcia failed to produce any, prompting police officers to hold them.

Police recovered a caliber .9mm pistol with a magazine loaded with five live ammunition, a hand grenade, a plastic sachet of shabu weighing 5.97 grams worth P40,596, and a plastic sachet of more or less 1.9 grams of dried marijuana valued at P418 inside Macling’s sling bag.

During verification, police learned that the motorcycle they were riding was forcibly taken from a victim and was reported to the Investigation and Detective Management Section (IDMS) of Taguig Police.

The two suspects were presently detained at the Custodial Facility of Taguig police, while the minor suspect was turned over to “Bahay Pag-asa” for proper disposition.

“Anti-criminality operation remains in progress so that we can better maintain the safety of each one in our community,” Kraft said in an interview.
