THE Quezon City government is still collating evidence against those who could be held liable for the so-called “superspreader” events in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon.

This was disclosed Tuesday by City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) head, Dr. Rolly Cruz saying that the city’s department of public order and safety (DPOS) is collecting evidences as part of the investigation to be conducted by the city’s legal department.

Mayor Joy Belmonte has ordered the city legal department to conduct an investigation on concerned barangay officials to find out if they failed to fulfill their responsibilities as persons in authority.

In an interview, Cruz told People’s Tonight that there were already 55 residents who were found positive for COVID-19.

The 55 residents were among those attended either the improvised pool party and drinking session during the Mother Day celebration on May 8.

According to Cruz, there were 610 residents who were swab-tested as a result of the superspreader. Those who tested positive for COVID-19 are now under quarantine in the city’s HOPE facilities.

Following the reported events, the city legal department immediately issued a show cause order to the Punong Barangay to explain why he should not be held liable for said events.

Cruz added that the Punong Barangay must give his explanation as soon as possible.

Earlier, city legal officer, Atty. Orlando Paolo Casimiro said they will investigate the local officials for possible administrative neglect or misconduct.

Those who organized the said events, on the other hand, may be charged with violation the provisions of Republic Act 11332 or the “Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern” and will be issued city ordinance violation receipt (OVR).

Meanwhile, Cruz said the community was placed under lockdown for 14 days. The lockdown was implemented last May 14.
