THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced that Cotabato Airport is set to be fully operational for commercial flights starting yesterday.

According to CAAP, Cotabato Airport will be operating from 7 a.m to 11:59 a.m. beginning August 19, 2023 to November 18, 2023.

CAAP assured the public that the ongoing runway development project in Cotabato Airport is being closely supervised to guarantee safe operations once airlines decide to resume their services.

The Aerodrome Management and Development Service (ADMS) said the runway will have a length of 1,960 meters and a width of 45 meters, which will be able to accommodate single-aisle aircraft such as the Airbus A320 or Boeing B737.

The runway development project, which includes asphalt overlay and repainting of the runway markings, was initiated under the Department of Transportation (DoTr) and later downloaded to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in 2017.

The project underwent a bidding process early in 2022 and began towards the end of the same year.

CAAP took part in the implementation of the project only this year, after the decision to close the runway for repair was made.

The immediate runway asphalt overlay of the central 1,960 meter x 20 meter width was successfully finished while the remaining portion of the 12.50 meters on both sides is still undergoing repair.

CAAP said the safety of the travelling public is always their main priority, and that every measure is being taken to expedite the readiness of Cotabato Airport for commercial operations.
