AS part of their ongoing campaign to help save the environment, members of the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office have stepped-up their ‘Scubasurero’ project aimed at cleaning the coast and the Pasig Islet in Sta. Cruz municipality.
According to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, this particular body of water has been a source of food and livelihood for residents in Barangay Bato prompting the local police led by members of the Digos City Police Station to intensify their ‘Scubasurero’ cleanup project.
The program of the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO11) under Brigadier Gen. Filmore B. Escobal aims to keep the sea clean from all forms of waste and strengthen partnerships with other advocacy groups also working to ensure a clean environment.
Other local advocacy groups such as Kaligkasan, Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo, Lesbian and Gay Anti-Crime Organization and the Riders Against Criminal Elements are taking part in the project.
Gen. Eleazar lauded the cops for not just providing security to communities but also for protecting the environment.
“Bukod sa pagbabantay ng seguridad sa ating komunidad, maaasahan ang ating kapulisan sa pag-aalaga sa ating kalikasan,” he said.
The PNP chief also urged other police personnel to initiate similar environmental protection projects in their areas similar to that conducted by the policemen in Digos City.
