PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday reminded his men to remain vigilant with the expected huge turnout of people during the final day of voter’s registration.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) set the deadline for voter’s registration until Saturday, October 30.

“But I have placed all police offices on alert for the last day of the voter’s registration in anticipation of large numbers of people lining up at the different voter registration hubs nationwide at the last minute,” he added.

The top cop appealed to people proceeding to the different voter registration centers to follow health protocols and other rules and regulations for their own safety.

“I have also directed all police commanders to enhance visibility patrols and anti-crime operations around these sites, including other public areas, to deprive criminals the opportunity to strike or prey on our kababayan,” he said.

The poll body initially set the deadline on September 30, but voter registration was extended due to public clamor which prompted lawmakers to pass a bill for the registration’s extension.
